October Bellabox

By behlary · November 1, 2012 · 0 Comments ·

Hey guys!

Sorry for the awkward silence.. but I am back! Hopefully I'll post more consistently from now on and stop procrastinating so much.

Things have been so hectic since I was last on here. It's so challenging juggling so many things at the same, sometimes I just feel so worn out, but I'm sure everybody feels that way sometimes.

When I'm feeling totally pooped, one thing that never fails to make me jiggle with excitement is when I get a package in the mail. Bellabox makes it even more exciting because you just never know what goodies you're gonna get!

I think using black paper  instead of the usual hot pink paper was a very nice touch!

I love reading about the product descriptions of the products I'm getting. It's pretty thoughtful of them to put down the price of the full sized product too.

I haven't used these products yet, but I'm thinking that from now on, I'll only post about my monthly Bellabox after I've tried out all the products. I think that would be a better idea because then you guys would get mini reviews at the same time as well. Would you guys prefer that?

Well that's the end of this post! How many of you subscribe to Bellabox?

August Favorites

By behlary · September 10, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

Sorry for skipping a few monthly favorites, but I didn't really see a point in doing them because I pretty much stuck with the same things throughout the last few months. However, I've got quite a few new favorites this August which I'd like to share with you!

Mentholatum Acnes Medicated UV Tinted Milk

I've searched high and low for a good facial sunscreen that doesn't make my face or hands feel greasy. I really really hate that greasy feeling and for the longest time I totally went off facial sunscreens because I couldn't find a good one. I decided to try this out after reading a review on Kimoko's blog and I've really been liking this product. I use it after my moisturizer and before my primer everyday. It doesn't make me feel greasy, it doesn't break me out, it has a high SPF and it's affordable. Until I find a better sunscreen this will be a staple in my daily skincare routine.

Mentholatum Acnes Medicated Sealing Jell

This is meant to be an acne treatment, but I read reviews that it doesn't do much in that aspect. Despite not being an effective acne treatment, I have heard that it is a pretty darn good makeup primer. I decided to test it out for myself and bought it and I have to say, it really does work amazingly well as a primer. The consistency of the gel is quite thick and smooth and it fills in my pores to give me a smooth canvas to work on. The best thing about this product is the oil control. I have combination skin leaning towards the dry side, however my T-zone does get oily throughout the day. While I was using this I noticed that there was significantly less oil on my oil blotting sheet and it took a longer time for my T-zone to get shiny. I'd say the oil control lasts a good 8-9 hours for me.

Za Skin Beauty Liquid Foundation

I bought this at Watsons on a whim while I was waiting for a friend to arrive so that we could go for lunch. I have totally switched my Revlon Colorstay foundation out for this one for daily use. The consistency of this foundation is very light and almost runny, but it gives amazing coverage and dries to a matte finish. Even though the finish is matte, it looks very natural and doesn't look cakey. The coverage is medium coverage if you use a thin layer, but you could definitely build it up to become full coverage. I like to spritz my EDM tapered sculpting face brush with water to get it damp, dip it into the foundation on the back of my hand and blend it all over my face in a circular motion. I find that applying this foundation this way really gives it a more natural and flawless look. It's easy to blend as well so I can get my full face of makeup done in about 5 minutes, which is great for when I'm running late for school. As for lasting power, this foundation wears pretty well throughout the day without any touching up.

Maybelline Mineral Power Concealer

I absolutely adore this concealer. The consistency isn't too thin or too thick, and it blends out really well. You only need the tiniest bit. The coverage is excellent and it can be used under the eyes or on any blemishes. I like to swipe it under my eyes and dot it on any blemishes and then pat it lightly for maximum coverage. I use this everyday after I've applied my Za foundation to do any extra concealing. This is  my HG concealer. I've heard the L'oreal True Match concealer is similar and pretty good too so I'm looking forward to trying that. My only gripe about this concealer is that its so expensive here. I bought this one in US and it was only about 9USD, but over here its SGD29.90. I might just order lots off drugstore.com as backups.

Covergirl Clean Oil Control Pressed Powder

When I got this I wasn't really impressed with it. I didn't hate it but I didn't particularly love it. For some reason this month I've been reaching for this everyday to set my makeup, and it's really growing on me. The powder is a skintone color, but when you blend it onto your skin it becomes translucent. It does a nice job of setting my makeup without looking cakey because the powder is very finely milled. It's been a nice staple product this month although I'm not sure if it's a HG product for me.

NYC Sunny Bronzer

This is a very light bronzer, which I like becuase I'm quite fair skinned. I don't use it to contour my face, but more to warm up my complexion and maybe shade around my face at my hairline. I also like it because it's completely matte and it looks very natural.

MAC Blush in Peachykeen

I've been stuck in a blush rut lately because I love my ELF studio blush in Tickled Pink so much, so I've been trying to get myself to use my other blushes as well. The one I've been using almost everyday is Peachykeen by MAC. It's just really nice for everyday because it gives me a very fresh glow. It's a sheertone blush, so it's not completely matte. It has more of a satin finish, which makes my skin looks very glowy and awake.

Heroine Volume and Curl Mascara

I bought this in a set with the Heroine mascara makeup remover when it was on sale for the brands anniversary. I wasn't expecting much from it, but after using it I'm really really loving it! It really holds curl well and it makes my lashes look insanely long. It's also very good at defining and separating my lashes so it makes it look like I have a ton of lashes. Unlike a lot of mascaras, this mascara keeps my lashes feeling very soft and flexible while I'm wearing it and it makes my lashes look very fluttery. I've really been loving this mascara this month!

ELF Studio Cream Eyeliner in Coffee

I've been wearing brown eyeliner a lot more lately because it just looks less harsh and it looks more natural for my everyday makeup that I wear to school. The ELF cream eyeliner is very smooth and pigmented, plus it's exrtemely inexpensive so I like that a lot.

Urban Decay Brow Box in Brown Sugar

An old time favorite, it's the only thing I use for my brows. A little boring, but it's definitely still my HG brow product. I have heard that the ELF studio brow kit is pretty similar though so I can't wait to try that. If it works just as well as my UD one that would be great since the ELF one is a lot cheaper.

Claire's Chrome Palette
I've really been enjoying this palette lately. The colors in this palette allow me to create a variety of looks from neutral to more smokey dramatic looks. The colors in the palette are very interesting as well because quite a few of them are duochrome colors which are absolutely beautiful.

 Nivea Pinkish Boost

I've had this for a long time but I never really used it. Lately I've been using it a lot because it really smooth and light and it acts as a lip balm while still giving me a very pretty pink tint on my lips. It's just handy to throw into my school bag and use throughout the day.

 Coastal Scents Brush

I'm not quite sure what this brush is called, but its like a very tapered crease brush. Its almost like a pencil brush actually, and the tip is very pointed. It's not a very fluffy brush at all. I like this brush because when I'm lazy, I use this to fill in my brows. I just dip it in my brow powder, and stroke it through my brows. It gets the job done a lot faster than a normal angled brush, but the pointed tip of the brush allows me to feather the product through.

EDM Tapered Sculpting Face Brush

I use this brush damp to apply my foundation in order to give a more natural finish.

So these are all the products that I have been loving for the month of August! I will give more in depth reviews of each of the products later, so look out for those! I hope you've enjoyed this rather long post! Thanks for reading!

New Canmake Eyeliners

By behlary · July 21, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

Long time no post! It's been a hectic month and I haven't had time to post, even though I have so many posts I want to write! Anyway, while I was in watsons, I saw the new canmake eyeliners and swatched them, so I thought I'd share!

They have a powder eyeliner in two colors, and a pencil eyeliner in two colors. There was also a black felt tip liner but the tester at the store was all dried out so I didn't get to swatch that. ):

Top two are the pencil eyeliners, and the bottom two are the powder eyeliners. As you can see, they're pretty pigmented. I was very impressed with the staying power as well. I later rubbed them very hard with my finger, but they would not budge. The only thing that happened was that the line became softer. The intensity of the color did not decrease at all.

The texture of the pencil was very smooth and creamy and the powders were soft. I might pick a few up myself!

That's the end of a very short post! I will be posted a belated haul soon!

Nail Swatch - China Glaze Naked

By behlary · June 8, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

Hi!

I went to a flea market not long ago and they were selling China Glaze nail polishes for just SGD4! The color selection wasnt that great though so I just got one in the color Naked. Its a vibrant medium pink that is cool toned. I really really like this color! It's like the perfect pink for my skin tone. It isn't like neon hot pink but it still looks fun and pretty. Enough rambling, here are the swatches!

Excuse the messy application! Anyway, there you go, I highly recommend this color, I think it would look pretty on any skintone! Do any of you love this color as well?

A Latenight Haul

By behlary · June 8, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

Just a tiny haul from when my family and I went grocery shopping at the 24 hour supermarket at 1am. It was pretty exciting really, but I got bored and wandered off to the beauty section. Typical of a beauty junkie huh?

Starting from top left hand corner going clockwise: ACNES UV Tinted Milk SPF50, ACNES Medicated Sealing Jell, Liese Juicy Shower Refill, Garnier Light Sheet Mask, Dettol Hand Sanitizer Pack.

I hardly get any spots but I read kimoko's post on how the ACNES medicated sealing jell was a very effective primer although it doesn't do much for breakouts. Since it was only about SGD8, I figured I'd just pick it up and try it out. I'm exciting to test it out, so watch out for a post on that!

Kimoko also raved about the ACNES UV Tinted Milk, and since I was looking for a good facial sunscreen, I picked that up too.

I've already used the Garnier mask so do expect a review on that as well!

That's all folks! Thanks for looking!

Review: My Liese Bubble Experience

By behlary · May 19, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

Hey ya'll!

I wonder how many of you have colored hair? I colored my hair for the first time in my life in November 2010. My hair is naturally a chocolate brown, with some gold and red hairs. Talk about weird huh? I decided to color my hair just because I was bored and wanted something new and exciting in my life. I thought about whether I should go to salon and get it dyed professionally or whether I should just DIY it.

That's when my friend recommended the Liese Bubble Hair Dye to me. She said she had read pretty good reviews, and that her cousin had used it and really liked it. Since it was only SGD19.90, I decided to give it a whirl. I got it in Chiffon Beige. The color came out beautifully and it was very even.  6 months later, about 2 1/2 inches of my roots were showing, so I bought a new box to dye my hair again. I thought I'd just document the process and show you guys the final results! Enjoy!

The contents of the box:

The box contains: the 2 chemicals which you have to mix together, a pump, an instruction manual that comes in Japanese and English, a pair of gloves and a nourishing leave in hair cream.

Let's get on with the steps to prepare the mixture!

1. Just pour the contents of the brown bottle into the clear white bottle, then screw on the cap.

2. This next part is important. You're not going to shake the bottle vigorously or anything. You're just going to kinda, turn the bottle upside down and back up again gently. Do this about 5-6 times. Try not to get any bubbles in the mixture.

3. After you've done this, screw off the white cap, and screw on the pink pump that is provided. In order to dispense the foam, just squeeze the bottle.

Let the DIY begin!

*note: this is super noob proof. Just wear an old T-shirt you don't mind staining. It's not really that messy. In fact, I just stood there at the sink and dyed my hair.

Just keep working the foam into your hair. It won't be very foamy at first, but just keep working it in, and you'll get a nice rich lather.

Oh I forgot to mention, one bottle is more than enough for extremely long hair. Last year, I had hair to my waist, and there was still too much product!

I always use up all the product so that I get an extra even color.

So, after working the foam into your hair, you should get something like this.

Leave it like that until you get the color you want, and then rinse it out! It's as easy as that. Just make sure you don't get it in your eyes.

Now here's the final result!

As you can see, the color shows up very well, and it's very even as well.

Just to compare, this is the color that is shown on the box of the product.

Okay now that all that is over, I'll share my personal thoughts on this product.

I'll talk about the pros first. First off, I love that its a very easy, mess-free way to dye your hair at home. I did it standing up in front of the sink and I was even walking around. None of it got on my floor at all. Even for a hair dye noob like myself, it was fun and easy to do. The price is also quite reasonable. It retails at SGD19.90, but I think you can get it for SGD17.90 at Swanston. There is no need to lighten your hair before you dye it, all you have to do is follow the instructions on the box. The color of my hair came out quite similar to the color on the box as well, so I was quite happy with that.

However, there were a few things that I wasn't too crazy about. First of all, the smell is absolutely horrific. This is an ammonia based hair dye so you can guess that it smells like - surprise surprise - ammonia. Yes. The smell was so strong and so bad that I had to step out of the bathroom for a bit. However this can be be countered by making sure that you dye your hair in a well ventilated area. Ammonia in large amounts can be an irritant to your respiratory system so do take care!

Secondly, do make sure that your hair is in good condition before you dye your hair. Get a trim, condition your hair and all that good stuff. My hair was in great shape before I dyed my hair last year, but after I dyed my hair, my hair became pretty dry and ratty for about 2 weeks before returning to its normal condition. I also lost hair while dyeing it. Don't get me wrong I'm not talking about massive chunks of hair falling out, but I did lose a bit of hair. A little tip I have for you is to use an anti-hair fall shampoo a few weeks before you dye your hair. When I dyed my hair this time round, I just happened to be using an anti-hair fall shampoo because I had run out of my normal one, and I noticed a huge difference. I lost a lot less hair when I dyed my hair this time round, and my hair did not become ratty and dry .

All in all, I think that this is a fantastic product. Sure it has a few cons such as the smell and the hair damage, but as I've mentioned, there are ways to counter these problems, so I think this is a pretty good product. I really love the color selection, in fact, I think they came out with a few new ones! I highly recommend to everyone, especially people who are afraid of DIY hair dyes because they have never used them before.

Yup, so this concludes my review of the Liese Bubble Hair Dye! I hope it was helpful and that you enjoyed it! Let me know if you have or would check it out!

Haul: TI Creative Hot Pink Chrome Hair Styling Flat Iron

By behlary · April 17, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

I was on the hunt for a good flat iron and I was deciding between this one and the Sultra flat iron, but this one won because I just couldn't resist the hot pink color! Here's a better look.

It was a lot bigger than I had expected. It comes with a heat resistant case, a cloth to wipe it and an instruction manual.

March Favorites!

By behlary · April 5, 2011 · 2 Comments ·

I should really kick myself for the lack of posts lately! I've just been swamped with assignments from work and then I have school starting soon. I also came down with the flu last week. It's been a really hectic 2 weeks! I know I skipped February favorites, but that was because I didn't really have any new things to include in my favorites post and that would just be boring. However, this month I have plenty of new things to include so lets get into it!

1. Daiso Cosmetic Brush and Sponge Cleaner
2.  Skin79 VIP Gold Collection Super Beblesh Balm
3. Palgantong Makeup Theatrical Powder
4.  Urban Decay Brow Box in Brown Sugar
5. Fairydrops Mascara
6. Kao Biore Makeup Removing Wipes
7. Za Pure Shine Lips Lipstick in PK3 Shell Pink
8. Carmex Original Moisturizing Lip Balm
9. Makemania Eyes Flasher BB
10. Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner Eye Studio in Black
11. Maybelline Mineral Power Concealer
12.  Ms. Manicure Tweezers

*note: I forgot to include 11 and 12 in the group photo.

Daiso Cosmetic Brush and Sponge Detergent - I love this because its so cheap and it does everything it's supposed to do. I don't have to spend so much money on brush cleansers anymore!

I love this BB cream! I think it's hot pink sister BB cream is more well known, but I actually prefer this better! I went online to buy the hot pink one and I got think one as well just for the sake of it. I probably will post a comparison of the two! This BB cream blends well, has great coverage and doesn't feel heavy. It has a quite a thick consistency so I was a bit hesitant to put it on my face, but after applying it, it looks natural and doesn't look cakey. It's supposed to help with wrinkles and have whitening properties as well. I like to apply this with a classic foundation brush. Definitely going to review this!

I bought this a year ago because I had seen many good reviews on it, but I never got around to using it till now. It's a translucent powder that is supposed to be highly raved in Japan. I usually use a powder foundation to set my makeup for more coverage, but my skin has been pretty good lately, so I don't feel the need to. Since the Skin79 BB cream gives me medium coverage, I use this to set my makeup. The powder is so finely milled and when it gives me a really nice matte soft focus finish.

This concealer is amaaaaazing! It is very thin yet opaque. It easily covers up everything from blemishes to under eye circles. I use just the tiniest amount to cover up any dark circles or shadows on my face. It's pretty pricey here at SGD29.90, but I bought it in the US for about USD8. I will post my US trip haul soon. I thought I had lost the post I wrote in a Microsoft document but I found it last week.

For the past few months I have been loving my EDM eyeliner in black like crazy, but for some reason, this month I've been reaching for my Maybelline Gel Liner a lot. I've been really getting into the strong, edgy liner look lately and I love this product and the brush it comes with because it gives me very clean lines.

I really love the formula of this mascara! It's not too wet and watery and watery and it's not too dry. I like it better than my Majolica Majorca Lash Enamel Glamour Volume On mascara so that says a lot since I ADORE my MM one. I've been using this mascara every time I do my makeup. I just find that it really defines my lashes and it doesn't make them clump at all. It also gives me volume and decent length. I did not experience any flakiness during the day. And I really like the brush too!

This palette came with a little card that shows you how to get different looks with the colors it comes with. The silver on the far right is actually a cream shadow. It has loads of silver glitter in it which I LOVE. Another thing I've been loving lately is glitter liner on my bottom lash line. It's just so fun! I like this palette because I can do really simple eye makeup or I can do something more smokey and dramatic as well.

This is a pretty weird favorite, but I can't seem to use any other tweezer other than my Ms Manicure ones! I just really like how it's pink and purple and it's very precise too! I use this for my brows.

My Urban Decay Brow Box in Brown Sugar is the only thing I can ever use for my brows. Sometimes when I'm in a hurry, after I finish lining my eyes with my EDM liner, I might use the left over pigment to do my brows. But the only official brow product I have ever loved so far is this.

This is soooooo moisturizing. My lips have been insanely chapped nowadays and I find that this works wonders. It makes my lips soft and hydrated and I really like the smell and the tingly feeling it gives.

This is just a wearable pretty pink, everyday color. I don't know why, but I've been using this a lot throughout the month of March. It's quite sheer so it looks natural but it adds just a nice pop of color and goes with any look I'm doing that day.

I bought the little mini pack to try these out and I loved them so much that I went ahead and bought the full sized box. They're just so great for days when I come home and I'm too exhausted to take off my makeup in the bathroom. I keep these on my bedside table and use them to take all my makeup off. They take everything off including waterproof mascara and eyeliner. And they're pretty affordable too!

Well that concludes my March favorites! I hope you enjoyed it, thanks for looking!

ELF Studio Eyeshadow Palettes

By behlary · March 21, 2011 · 2 Comments ·

Hey there!

Just a post on these two palettes that I ordered off the ELF website not long ago! Not going to make this intro too long as I need to post this quick quick since I'm heading out soon. Let's get into it!

Each palette comes with 6 eyeshadows, a brush and a small mirror. I believe the palette on the left is called the Party Palette and the one on the right is called the Natural Palette.

A closer look at the Party Palette and swatches.

My thoughts: The shadows in the Party Palette are quite nicely pigmented. However the texture of the first shimmery white color is a bit gritty and hard. I think it could be due to the large flecks of glitter in it, which you can see in the photo of the first 3 colors. The pale green shade actually comes off more gray when swatched as well. But the glittery black, oh my goodness, is so so so pigmented! It's almost crazy! Since it was the last shade I thought that I had a pretty good idea of what the pigmentation would be like, but when I swatched it, it's craaaazy pigmented! It's a gorgeous black shade with silver sparkle and I'm digging it! The creamiest shade in terms of texture is probably the grayish taupe color (4th from the left). It is very pigmented and goes on very smoothly. Overall, this palette is quite worth getting considering it's only 3USD.

Next up!

The shadows in the neutral palette are definitely softer and more pigmented compared to the other palette. The eyeshadows feel creamier and the the lightest shade is not gritty. I think this is an awesome neutral palette! It's great for everyday looks and very handy for traveling as well. Having that tiny strip of mirror is good, but I would much rather have a big mirror like the ELF Studio compacts have. I like both the palettes but this one is definitely my favorite of the two.

Both palettes come with a tiny eyeshadow brush.

The brush is very flat, skinny and stiff. It's basically like a miniature shader brush. I don't think it's all that good for applying eyeshadow though. I mean. It would get the job done, it would just take a much longer time. However I do think that these brushes would be good for lining the eyes or popping some shimmery eyeshadow in the tear duct area.

All in all I am tremendously happy with these palettes from ELF and if they made them in more shades I definitely would pick them up! But do note that all the shadows in both palettes are shimmery. So if you're someone who hates shimmery and sparkle, then I definitely wouldn't recommend these. Thanks for looking! Thoughts?
